My Book Launched and I Still Haven't Touched It

My book came out Tuesday and I have not even held a physical copy yet. People picture book launches with champagne toasts in hotel ballrooms. Mine happened while managing my kids, answering a hundred messages, working my normal day, and tracking a shipment currently sitting in Jamaican customs. I literally had someone locally ask me for a copy and had to tell them I didn't have one. They said, "I thought it was your book." It is. But I talk about the ROI of peace and protecting your cortisol in the book, so I refused to burn down my own mental health trying to make a launch look effortless. Even with the delays, the launch has blown me away. Money Moves and Mindset Shifts already broke into the Amazon top 100 across three categories: Number 32 in Income Inequality Number 87 in Economics Number 96 in Wealth Management Seeing a 384-page Wiley hardcover out in the world with my name on it hit me hard. I started as a teen mom studying heavy Wiley business textbooks late at night just trying to survive undergrad and grad school. Now I wrote one. In this episode, I share the real story behind launch week and why I wrote this book in the first place. Most personal finance advice relies on shame, restriction, and punishment. Skip your coffee, starve your life today, feel guilty for existing. That never worked for me and it doesn't work for my clients. This book is an operational manual for peace: Calming panic with the $1,000 cortisol buffer Automating your flow using the three-bucket system Building your legacy binder and writing legacy letters so your family is protected Money is a mental game. You can pay off debt and build wealth without starving the life you have today. Tiffany's take right here on the Money Talk with Tiff Podcast. So if you would like your questions answered on the podcast, go to www.moneytalkwitht.com forward slash ask Tiffany, and I'll be more than happy to answer. But today I'm doing something a little different. I am talking about my book launch because my book just came out on Tuesday. Yay! Woo! Oh my gosh, I don't believe we have gotten here. I didn't get a chance to record on launch day because real life was happening. Um, you know, I I feel like people have this thing about, oh, when you're writing a book, you know, you're uninterrupted and all this stuff. When you're doing your launch, you're toasting champagne, all that stuff. Yeah, no. Um, I actually haven't even touched my book yet, um, which I'll get to a little later. But I was managing kids, coordinating messages. People was blowing me up about how they were getting their books and things, handling logistics, still trying to get pre-order bonuses and stuff out, staring at screens, still trying to work. Like it was a whole real life happening. Um, you know, even though I was traditionally published, we don't have lunch parties and ballrooms and stuff, unless that's what you do. You know what I'm saying? Um, but just how my life is set up right now, I don't have the time to do that. Um, I it happened while I was sitting at my desk and um social media was blowing up and everything, um, and tracking a shipment. So let's get into that real quick. So my book, so I still have yet to touch my own books, which sounds really weird. But because I'm here in Jamaica, they're actually stuck in customs right now. And I have to wait for Wiley to give me some stuff so that way I can get it cleared and all this, that, or the other. So I haven't even touched my own books, and now we are two days post-launch, which is crazy, but it's all good because what makes me happy is I'm seeing all of these um books in other people's hands, and people are even saying they already on chapter seven. I'm like, dang, like I knew it was an easy read, but people are really diving into it. Um, and some of the initial feedback I got was that it was a really easy read, eloquently written, looks practical, whatever, whatever. Um, so I will say that that is what's giving me solace, even though I have not touched my own book. Also, I woke up to see that money moves and mindset shifts cracked the top 100 on Amazon in three categories. So, right now we're number 32 in income inequality, number 87 in economics, and number 96 in wealth management. And overall, out of millions of books that's on Amazon, I am 79,000 right now, around 79,000. So I am so super excited. And thank you all so, so, so, so much um for purchasing and just supporting in every way that you can um this book. And it hit me emotionally because it just feels like a full circle moment. Like I went from a teen mom reading heavy Wiley business textbooks late at night while doing my undergrad trying to survive, and then going on to masters still as a single parent, trying to survive, and now I have my own 384-page Wiley hardcover ranked in the economic section as a black woman. Like, I don't think like the gravity of that is just phenomenal, and that's one thing that I have been trying to hold back tears on, and on top of that, two years almost to the day is when my article had released on CNBC about me moving to Jamaica two years ago, almost to the day of my book release, which is crazy as well. And so it just all of these things just hitting this week like wow, like I've come a long, long, long, long way. You know, numbers are exciting and rank is just an algorithm. But what really matters are all the texts and stuff that I'm getting from readers saying that they're already almost done with the book, or you know, they've been listening or whatever, and having those concepts clicking or seeing photos of the book, people have been sending me videos, pictures, unboxings, all this stuff like that is the stuff that really matters in all of this. And again, I'm just forever grateful. Now, I being that my books are stuck, like I've had people locally in Jamaica want a book, and having to say, well, y'all, I actually don't have no copies, um, is interesting. Even somebody said to me, they was like, I thought it was your book. I'm like, it is my book, but it's okay. I know that I will get them eventually. And for me, I'm like, I can't sit here and write a book and not practice what I preach. Like in the book, I talk about the ROI of peace and managing your cortisol and not burning down your mental health while trying to deal with your money. So I'm not gonna burn my own mental health down trying to force a launch to look effortless. It's definitely not effortless. And I'm giving you all the real scoop here on the podcast because you all have been with me through everything. Um, we're 400 plus episodes in. Shout out to you if you have been with the podcast for that long since day one. That's amazing. Even if you haven't been here since day one, thank you so much for tuning in. I just had to learn this week to just breathe, let the delays happen, let life happen, and just trust the process. Like everything is going to work out. And so that's that's just where I've been this week. Now, also, I want to talk about why I even wrote this book and what this book was for. So, most personal finance books and things are built on shame, it's built on restriction, punishment. You know, skip your coffee, starve your lifestyle, feel guilty if you buy some shoes. You know what I'm saying? I have learned as a financial counselor that that way does not work. I used to be on that, you know, the Dave Ramsey thing. I used to listen to him all day, every day. But I realized that that is just not a sustainable way to live. And also, you know, in dealing with death, you know, my grandma passed away back in 2022, and that was a big blow to me. That was like my mom, she pretty much raised me. I'm like, we could leave this earth tomorrow. And if we're sitting here starving our life today, trying to accumulate all this money or do all these, you know, doing all of that stuff. Not saying that that stuff isn't important if it's important to you, but I feel like there has to be a balance. You know, it's okay to pay off debt and, you know, work on your financial goals, but you also need to enjoy your life while you have it, because you never know when your time is gonna come. So I made this book as like an operational manual for peace, because peace is infinitely important to me. So stopping your financial panic with the thousand dollar cortisol buffer, automating your cash flow with the three-bucket system, setting up your legacy binder, writing legacy letters to whoever you want to leave a legacy to. This is why I wrote the book because I want it to be different and tackle both the practical things that you need to know and strategies with the mental game that you're gonna have to play on this road. Like, I cannot also stress that enough that money is a mental game. And that's also a full circle moment. Because when I first started the blog back in 2017, my very first blog article was money is an emotional thing. And I talked about how money is more of a mental game. And now I have a book all these years later. Dang, 2017. That means wow, almost 10 years ago. Almost 10 years ago, I wrote that article. And now, full circle, I have a whole book about it. You know, so I just feel like this has culminated into this moment. And it has been such a journey. Such a journey. Also, I want to mention, too, because you all haven't heard it on the podcast. If you follow me on social media, you may have been keeping up, but all formats are out for the book as well. So if you have an excuse, oh, I don't have time to sit down and read a physical book. Guess what? Audible's there. We got an audio book, y'all. Okay. I only read digital. Kindle's there. Okay. Um, so we got hardcover Kindle and Audible. All of those are live right now. So you can dig in however, get in, however, you fit in, okay? Because the the information is there and it's ready for you. I'm just using this episode to just sit and reflect on the journey, share with you some of the journey, and um, you know, just talk about some of the stuff that I had to go through in this process and also that I talk about in the book. In the book, I mean, I literally take you first chapter, first line is me sitting in the doctor's office being nervous as a teen parent, finding out that I was pregnant. And then the book just keeps going from there until it gets to one of the last chapters is on expatting and my expat journey and how you too can be an expat. Because I know a lot of y'all are ready to get out of the US, which I completely understand. And so I threw that in the book as well. So it takes you through all the business stuff, all the money stuff from the trying to survive to mostly thriving, you know what I mean? And and I ground it in real life stuff because things are not all gun drops and lollipops, y'all. Even as someone that does this for a living and helps people do this all day, every day. I looked at my stats the other day and I've helped over a hundred people one-on-one with financial counseling and thousands of others just in my podcast, my blog, social media, all that stuff. So I'm like, this is something that I do all the time. I live and breathe it, and I still have those moments where I have credit card debt or I have student loans, I have a mortgage payment I can't pay. I have, you know, being hand to mouth, you know, being a business owner where I have a great month one month, and then the next month is no money coming in. So I understand all of that first-hand experience. And that's the type of stuff that I put in the book too. So I just highly recommend if you are, it really doesn't matter if you are currently struggling or you're currently looking to invest, leave a legacy, whatever. I literally hit on everything, every single thing in the book, and the mindset shifts that have to happen in whatever stage you're in. So anyway, I'll stop rambling and going on and on and on. Um, but I do highly recommend that you grab your copy on whatever format fits your life at money talkwitht.com forward slash moves. And if you've already bought it, you already have your copy, still go to money talkwitht.com forward slash moves and unlock the resource vault. If you have your copy, you'll see some QR codes in there. It'll lead to that page. Put in your email, you'll get the resource vault. And let me tell you, I sat there and personally made over 15 different tools and curated lots of different resources to coincide with this book so that way you're not just stuck reading with nothing to implement, you have everything you need to implement in the vault. So, like I made this so easy for everyone. And in the book, it's kind of like a workbook as well. I have a lot of different things in there, I have lots of different appendices, I have uh templates for stuff, I have um things that you fill out, money scripts, all this stuff that's in the book. It's literally a work as you go type read. You get what I'm saying? And also, I will say, even if money is tight right now and you can't buy the book in whatever format, then for free, if you want to support, all you have to do is call or visit your local library or local bookstores and request Money Moves and Mindset Shifts by Tiffany Grant. That is helpful as well. If I can get as on as many shelves as possible, that would be amazing because I feel like this is a book that everyone needs to have. And I'm not just saying that because I wrote it, I'm saying that because I truly believe in it and there's a lot of people that believe in it already as well. So definitely pick that up. Um, also, I will say if you all work for a university, have a church group, whatever the case may be, I am able to get discounts for bulk orders. So just reach out to me at Tiffany at money talkwitht.com. That's my email, and I'll be more than happy to work that through with you. Luckily, not luckily, thankfully, because I thank God for everything that I do, uh, institutions have been reaching out and ordering books. And so I've seen Wiley give like 40% off on different things. And also, oh, one more thing that happened that I'm super proud of and super excited about is that once somebody that has been following me for some time, they wanted to get some books in the hands because they have a tie to Jamaica, they wanted to get books in the hands of Jamaicans who are living abroad in the US or new to the U.S. and need help navigating the U.S. financial system. This book is perfect for that. And so they sponsored about 20-something odd copies that are going to the Jamaican Association of Greensboro so that way they can get those in the hands of Jamaicans already living abroad or coming abroad. So I thought that was a fantastic way and a very heartfelt way to get these books in the hands of people that may need it, that may not know that it even it even exists. So thank you so much for listening to the podcast. You stuck with me through over 400 plus episodes. I think this one is like 416 or something like that. I lose count, but I know it's up there. Thank you all so much for tuning in with me. I'm super excited about where everything is going, and I look forward to it creating more content. That's another thing. I've been updating a lot of the blog posts. So if you haven't checked out the blog recently, please go over there and check it out because a lot of my older blog posts, which I'll admit looking back, they needed some help. So I've been updating a lot of blog posts. Um, I think between August and September, I updated over 30 to 40 blog posts. So definitely go over there, check those out. It's real life guides for real life things that you may need help with. And also, I just want to close with a reminder that you need to protect your peace over everything. And I look forward to being in your earbuds next week. Thank you so much. Bye.
